ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS SPECIALIST - JOB ID 397

Reporting to Senior Management of Water Operations, the specialist is responsible for leading the safe and efficient execution of work and ensuring that the water treatment facility aligns with all appropriate regulations, policies, and procedures. To be successful we are looking for someone with great interpersonal and communication skills, who has excellent mentoring and leadership abilities. Someone who has sophisticated analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities, who can be adaptable in a fast paced dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Coordinate onsite maintenance activities, including contractor management
  • Communicate expectations to plant staff, monitor and appraise job results and mentor
  • Support professional development, reviews, and succession management activities
  • Support the training of personnel, including training program development and execution
  • Ensure plant operations, performance, operational and regulatory reporting requirements conform to operating standards and procedures, and initiate appropriate process adjustments
  • Supervise the performance of the facility through the use of Key Performance Indicators and other metrics
  • Review computerized operating, and laboratory results and database, to ensure record integrity
  • Lead optimization initiatives in the facility as part of continuous improvement efforts
  • Support the development of, Job Aids, Standard Operating Procedures, Training Manuals, Training Presentations, and Verifiable Learning Objectives

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Engineering or Sciences, or other relevant subject area
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in an industrial setting or large municipal facility, experience in a water or wastewater treatment plant required
  • Minimum five years’ experience leading a team
  • Level III or IV Water or Wastewater Treatment certificate is an asset
  • Prior laboratory or maintenance experience is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applicable computer process software applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License or equivalent
  • Location: Vancouver, BC
